Would this let two different things communicate faster than the speed of light?

suppose there are two objects out in space. they are a lightyear apart. now what if they were connected by a string. if the string was pulled by one object, would the other object feel the pull faster than if, say, a laser were fired at it? uming the string was made out of a super inelastic material. this is all theoretical. i was just wondering.
