Am I Racist? (serious answers only please)?
No, you're not racist. It is a natural psychological reaction to be afraid of something or someone who has given you a bad experience in the past. However, at the same time, notice that you are not afraid of humans - they were all humans right? Also, let's say that they were all wearing red shirts at the time, would you be afraid of everyone wearing a red shirt? So, recognize that although you are afraid of African Americans due to your past experiences, it is something you can get over. You need to see them in positive roles - look at President Obama and his family - do they look scary? You need to take the time to develop good relationships with them. It would have been a good place to start by interacting with African American clmates - talk with them, exchange notes with them, get to know them and start friendships. You will come to see that they are just like any of us out there, no different in any way. Unfortunately, criminals are criminals and they come in all shapes, sizes, races, and colors and you will encounter them from time to time again in your life but you shouldn't let that cloud your judgment of the good, honest, innocent people around you that are living their lives just like you are and these people also come in all shapes, sizes, races, and colors. So don't form a pre-judgment of anyone - this will only hamper you by messing with your mind, attitudes, behavior, etc. To live your life fully, you need to have an open mind and think rationally. Don't let fear guide you or drive you to do things that will only harm you in the long run.
